Who will advance scientific transformation in Africa?

posted by GFAR / written by Mukundane B Albert

In this thought-provoking poem, Mukundane B Albert, a Cooperative Agribusiness Management specialist, GFAR member, and African Poet hailing from Kampala, Uganda, sheds light on the pressing issues that hinder scientific progress on the continent.

With a keen eye for societal challenges, Albert highlights the plight of farmers, stakeholders, scientists, women, and other marginalized groups who are affected by the lack of inclusivity. As he delves into the intricate web of factors inhibiting advancement, including governance, political vision, donor implementation, poverty, and climate change, Albert poses a compelling question: Who will be the catalyst for scientific transformation in Africa?

Amidst the gloom, he sees a glimmer of hope emerging, with resolutions, recommendations, and the formation of institutions and organizations dedicated to advancing scientific progress on the continent. Join Albert on this poetic journey as he encourages us to contemplate and address the pressing need for scientific transformation in Africa.

“Who Will Advance Scientific Transformation in Africa?”

Farmers ebbed with society issues
The stakeholders affected by healthy plagues
The scientists clamouring for social inclusion
The women calling for affirmative gender equality
Who will advance scientific transformation in Africa?

Are they governments lacking proper accountability
The political heavy weight lacking vision agenda
The donor fraternity with soft grooves in implementation
The consumers forced on compulsory programmes
The charismatic traditional leaders rooted in tradition
Who will advance scientific transformation in Africa?

Are they researchers with no space for the studies
Private public partnerships pulling each other apart
Production units with no efficient and effective sustainability
The citizens dying in poverty traps
Who will advance scientific transformation in Africa?

The landlords affected by climate change
Advocates of change affected by wars and conflicts
Transparent and human rights activists banned in the territories
The local authorities in leadership vacuum structures
Who will advance scientific transformation in Africa?

The selected champions running for green card environment
The practical scientists with depleting resources
The scientific learners with copy and paste phenomena
The discoveries and inventions with no protection and standards
Who will advance scientific transformation in Africa?

I see the ray of hope coming
Resolutions and recommendations highlighted and endorsed
Capacities of institutions and organisations being formed
Advancing the scientific transformation in Africa
Who will advance scientific transformation in Africa?
