The Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP), hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with GFAR, held a webinar last November to present TAPipedia, a global information system to enhance knowledge sharing in support of capacity development (CD) for agricultural innovation systems (AIS), established with support of the EU-funded project Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation System (CDAIS).

TAPipedia_logoNow, TAP, GFAR and FARA will hold a second webinar aiming to raise awareness among the francophone community of the role of TAPipedia in disseminating innovative and systemic approaches for capacity development. TAPipedia, developed in the context of TAP and hosted by GFAR, is a portal in three languages (English, French and Spanish) that allows TAP partners and other stakeholders to share their own applied and context specific CD for AIS resources and to get acquainted with similar knowledge from other sources, partners and regions. TAPipedia also assists TAP members to present, explain and promote the TAP Common Framework on CD for AIS and its practical approach to Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation aimed at harmonizing the diversity of existing CD strategies through an AIS perspective. TAPipedia focuses on facilitation, learning, documentation and knowledge management to increase innovation capacities of individuals, organisations and of the environment that enables them to operate. In particular, this webinar in French wishes to engage the Francophone community in knowledge sharing through TAPipedia, that recently has included pages in French.

An important feature of TAPipedia is the so-called TAPipedia taxonomy, consisting of several CD for AIS related- terms that have been selected through a participatory process among TAP experts.  The taxonomy can be used by the users to optimize the search options. Every single resource in TAPipedia is tagged using the taxonomy, allowing users to easily understand the main topics of the resource.

In this webinar TAPipedia’ s main features will be presented, focusing particularly on the interactive section on the TAP Common Framework, which is currently being tested in eight countries of the CDAIS project, and other key resources developed under TAP and the CDAIS project.  In addition, experiences from the CDAIS project regarding the use and relevance of TAPipedia will be shared.

At the end of the webinar, participants will be encouraged to explore the portal, to discover its resources, to register to the TAPipedia network and to share their relevant material.

About the GFAR webinars

Our webinars are open to Partners in GFAR as well as other nonprofit organisations or individuals working in the area of agriculture, ecosystems and sustainable development. They are attended by scientists, students, communications staff as well as agricultural practitioners.

The webinars present the work of Partners in GFAR and show how our partners are working together towards shared GFAR goals. If your organisation is not a Partner in GFAR yet, join now!

We do not ask for a webinar participation fee, but request all participants to actively engage in the online discussions during the webinars.

The webinars are moderated via BlueJeans, an online tool running within any internet browser. It only requires participants to have a good and reliable Internet connection and a computer running any browser.

Topics of our past program-related GFAR webinars include:

Closing the gender data gap for agricultural policy and investment
Agents of Change in Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation: The Value of Facilitators
Building a bridge between scientists and communicators

Farmers’ Rights: How Complementarity between Researchers and Farmers Impact the Conservation of Genetic Diversity, Food Security and Livelihoods of the Poor

Beyond these program-focused webinars, we have also organised an extensive set on communications topics. Check out the playlist of all past GFAR webinars on YouTube!

GFAR, the unique multi-stakeholder global forum on agri-food research and innovation, is working to improve communication and learning from best practices and innovations within and among the 14 constituencies that form the Partners in GFAR. One of the ways we are doing this is through a series of year-round, high quality, and thought-provoking webinars.  By opening channels for the Partners in GFAR to share their work, interests and visions with a world-wide community and join others in addressing what concerns them, we aim to step up engagement in collective actions for change.

Each webinar brings together professionals and specialists to discuss topics that can make a difference in shaping the global agenda on research and innovation in agriculture, food and rural development. For more information contact Charles Plummer (Charles.Plummer(at)fao.org).
