Eyes on Montpellier: Global Media Puts Focus On GCARD2010

As participants make their way to Montpellier, the world’s media have set their sights on GCARD, helping to sharpen the focus of the discussions expected over the next few days.
 
News reports by Reuters, BBC, IRIN, and Alertnet highlighted a need for radical changes to meet the challenges of climate change, population growth, and dwindling natural resources, while also ensuring sustainability and maintaining public health.
 
In an opinion articles published by SciDev.net and Science (free registration required), two leading agricultural experts, Drs Monty Jones and Uma Lele, lead author of the global author’s report released on the eve of the conference, highlighted the need for a new global research agenda that provides long-lasting benefits for the world’s poor and warned that failure to deliver could have disastrous impacts for global food security.
